Bay Lakes Knitting Guild Picnic a Success

A great time was had by about 18 members of the Bay Lakes Knitting Guild last night, and for the first time ever, it didn't rain. We were able to be outside on the deck, albeit with light jackets towards the end of the evening.

This is an annual event, and notorious for its bad weather, but we lucked out. Everyone brings a dish to pass, their beverage of choice, and AJ and I provide burgers and condiments. The food was out of sight magnificent as was the company.

The evening was the culmination of the 2014 Design-A-Thon competition, and four prizes were awarded in two categories: Professional Knitters and Recreational Knitters.  These (see left) were the entries. In the Recreational Knitting category, Beth Harris won first place for her Funky Purse, and Andy Trotti won second place for the knitted wire pin.

In the Professional category, I won first place for the Alpaca Sweater and Zoe Moulton won second prize for the Fair Isle cable mitts.

About a year ago the BLKG received a hefty donation of yarn from the estate of a Green Bay fiber enthusiast, and we have been using that yarn to do charity knitting for Green Bay school children, new-borns at one of the hospitals, and chemo caps. All that yarn resides in my house when not in use, but last night I got it all out and set it up on a couple of banquet tables to encourage our members to choose what they wanted for charity knitting over the summer.

The table above held mostly baby yarn and by the end of the evening was gone by half. Phew! Less  yarn for me to crate up.

All of this came on the heels of a Yarn Crawl we did last weekend between here and Madison. All in all I think we had a very productive, interesting, and informative spring at the Bay Lakes Knitting Guild. If you live within driving distance of Green Bay, you should plan to join us. We meet on the second Thursday of every month, 12 months a year, and we are all pretty passionate about knitting!
